Spark Plug replacement on a Mitsubishi Lancer Berwick
Yesterday I serviced a Mitsubishi Lancer that was well overdue. This image shows what happens when engines are neglected. The spark plugs become erosive, corrosive and oxidised, which result in poor fuel usage, engine hesitation and loss of engine power.
It is still important to change the spark plugs at the set intervals set down be the manufacturer, to maintain optimum performance.
A lot can be determined from analyzing a spark plug from a vehicle. A normal spark plug will appear grayish-brown on the electrode and ground strap. This indicates that the fuel system and ignition system are properly tuned.
